CLOSING DATE: Sat February 28, 2009

This exhibition will be the show you will remember more than any other this year. You’ll see interactive labyrinth with lights, light box wall pieces, innovative prints, photo etchings, monotypes, photos, fabric wall hangings on themes of peace using symbols such as labyrinths, spirals, and cycles. Sandra Wasko-Flood will bring the splendor and gleam, and the exploration of peace within the heart of the universe to Sub-basement Artist Studios here in downtown Baltimore.
Unlike mazes, with many confusing paths, labyrinths have one path that leads to the center and back. Many people find that the single meandering path slows the breathing focuses the mind and induces a peaceful or meditative state. This experience can make it easier to express feelings and wishes, make decisions, or resolve conflicts: to find your path to inner peace.
Sandra Wasko-Flood, a visionary artist, teacher, and labyrinth builder since 1991, studied art at the University of California Los Angeles, University of Wisconsin Madison, and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At the Subbasement Artist Studios, visitors will experience the “Rainbow Labyrinth of Peace,” an interactive installation of computer programmed lights designed to be walked, as well as peace workshops, creativity events, Labyrinth walking, art exhibit and music. Living Labyrinths for Peace, Inc., sponsor of the exhibit, creates labyrinths of art, science, technology and nature, for learning programs that lead the way from inner peace to world peace. It’s a new year, and change is in the air! We are all inspired by this newfound sense of hope and better times ahead. If we want to see change in the world, we must be the change ourselves. In this inspirational workshop, experience the wisdom of labyrinths and mandalas, and discover the changes that live within your soul!
Mandalas—circular images—convey the universal concepts that life is a cycle, all things are one, and the universe within and the universe without are reflections of each other. Labyrinths are a specific type of mandala. Unlike mazes with many confusing paths, labyrinths have one path to the center and back. Many people find that walking the single meandering path of the labyrinth slows the breathing, focuses the mind, generates insights, and induces a peaceful state of well-being.
We’ll begin our journey together by creating sacred space and setting intentions. Next, we’ll walk the labyrinth as way to explore our intentions and gain personal insights. After some time for personal reflection, a guided meditation will provide the opportunity to go even deeper into our centers and envision a personal symbol for peace and transformation. Then, from a selection of materials, you will create your own mandala—a deeply personal piece of art to reflect your vision and inspire you on your journey of individual and global transformation!

The Wisdom of Mandalas and Labyrinths
Sponsored by Neshama Soulworks Studio and Living Labyrinths for Peace, Inc.
Discover yourself by experiencing the wisdom of mandalas and labyrinths in this inspirational workshop.
Mandala is a Sanskrit word for “sacred circle.” All cultures use mandalas—circular images—to convey the universal concepts that life is a cycle, all things are one, and the universe within and the universe without are reflections or each other.
Labyrinths are a kind of mandala. Unlike mazes with many confusing paths, labyrinths have one path to the center and back. Many people find that the single meandering path slows the breathing, focuses the mind, and induces a peaceful state of being.
You will begin your journey with a guided meditation to find your personal symbol. Then, from a selection of materials, you will create your own mandala. To support this experience of the mandala process, you will have an opportunity to walk an interactive labyrinth of lights for intentions that can transform you and the world.
